Prosecutors said they've received a letter reportedly written by a man who said he may have been involved in the killing of 4-year-old Cesar Ivan Aguilar-Cano.

Jesse Gilbert, 32, has faced numerous charges in Jefferson County, including his most serious offense -- being complicit to the murder of 55-year-old Dennis Kellems.

"The police was over here," said Kellems' neighbor, Rosemarie Ramos. "They came door to door asking everybody that lived in the area if they seen anything or heard anything."

Ramos said she remembers last July 14 vividly. That was the day Metro Police discovered Kellems, 55, strangled to death inside his apartment next door.

A little more than a month later, police arrested Gilbert.

Kellems' body was found just a few weeks after that of 4-year-old Ivan Aguilar-Cano.

Now prosecutors said the same man accused of being involved in Kellems' slaying also may be connected to the murder of Cano after they received a letter, reportedly from Gilbert.

"Mr. Gilbert claimed he was somewhat complicit in moving the body of the little boy," said Commonwealth's Attorney Jon Heck. "That would be the first time we ever heard anything like that because before information about this came out, Mr. Gilbert was silent about this issue."

Community activist Christopher 2X spoke on behalf of Cano's mother about the allegations against Gilbert.

"It was explained to her that is was just that -- allegations about a letter," said 2X. "She sees it as being not that significant to her yet, because he hasn't been charged."

But Gilbert has faced numerous charges in the commonwealth dating back as early as 1997, and is currently serving time at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex.

Ramos said she hopes Gilbert stays in jail.

"If he did this, he needs to be convicted and put away," she said. "He needs to be off the streets."
