Mary Burnett’s twin daughters still have to complete their senior years at Christian Academy- Louisville, but a special ceremony marked the occasion Thursday for their mother, who may not be there.

Burnett has been battling breast cancer for six years and doctors believe the 48-year-old’s time is running out.

In less than 24 hours, staff at CAL put together the ceremony, complete with speeches, special gifts, diplomas and a gathering of family. They wanted to make sure Burnett got the chance to see her girls graduate.

Brittany and Ashley Burnett each received a bracelet and on the clasp, a heart to always remind them of their mother.

Brittany and Ashley are Governor’s Scholars. They left their summer program at Centre College to be at the ceremony.
