Marquette's McNeal Withdraws From Draft

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Marquette guard Jerel McNeal has withdrawn his name from the upcoming NBA Draft and will return to school for his senior season.

McNeal had declared for the draft in late April after former head coach Tom Crean left to become head coach at Indiana, but did not hire an agent, leaving him the option of returning to Marquette.

"I made the decision yesterday after weighing all of my options," McNeal said. "I felt it was in my best interest to come back and accomplish some of the goals I have set for myself and get better, both on the court and academically."

McNeal was coming off a season where he averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals while starting all 35 games for the Golden Eagles en route to being named second team All-Big East.

"I am looking forward to being with my teammates and with the core of guys we have returning, we are all working hard to prepare for an even more successful season next year," McNeal said.

The 6-foot-3 guard has averaged 13.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game over his three years in Milwaukee, and was the 2006-07 Big East Defensive Player of the Year.
